Introduction |
|
|
| |
At Elementos Calefactores AS, we manufacture snow melting systems using heating cables, to prevent the build up of ice and snow on roofs, rooftops, terraces, etc.
Description
The ECAS snow melting system for roofs, melts the ice or snow from the affected areas, avoiding accidents which may hurt people or damaging vehicles down the street, also avoiding damage to the building structure. |

Applications
The build up of ice and snow on roofs, rooftops, terraces, etc., is always a problem in climate zones where low temperatures predominate.
To avoid ice and snow from building up on roofs, rooftops and terraces, and avoid accidents and important damage to the structure of the building, we recommend the Elementos Calefactores AS snow melting and de-ice system.
The system consists in laying a parallel heating cable in the surface of the roof, terrace etc., controlled by a temperature regulation system, to prevent the build up of ice and/or snow.
The Elementos Calefactores AS de-icing system can be installed in any kind of roof, rooftop or terrace etc., and on any kind of surface – metal, bitumen, gravel or tiles. |

Heating cable
For snow melting and deicing system for roofs, rooftops and terraces, we recommend constant power parallel heating cable, model CTCS.
The parallel heating cable has a constant lineal wattage even when it is cut to required length.
Its principal feature is the heating wire which is wound in a spiral around the parallel conductor, insulated from the conducting wire except at contact points set at one metre intervals, alternating between each of the active conductors. In this way, the heating cable forms a series of elements running in parallel all fed by the same power cable which acts as the body.

Power necessary per square metre
To determine the necessary power per square metre for a snow melting system for roofs, rooftops and terraces, it is important to take into account the type of construction material and the local climate conditions.
We will divide rooftops or roofs into two types:
- Uninsulated roofs or rooftops, have a low heat loss level. A rooftop or roof with little or no insulation will ice up when the sun does not melt the build up of snow.
- Insulated roofs or rooftops will only cause snow to melt up to a point and the water flows to the edges of the roof where it freezes.
For rooftops and/or roofs we use heating cables rated at 15-30 W/m. If the roof is made from material which deteriorate, the maximum power should not exceed 20 W/m.
The power necessary per square metre is similar to the power used in radiant floor applications.
In drainage gutters on the edge of an uninsulated rooftop, we generally require 30-60 W/m. By comparison, a well insulated rooftop require 30-40 W/m. For these applications we exclusively use parallel heating cable with constant wattage, model CTCS. |

Thermostat
We recommend the digital thermostat ETO2, an electronic controller for fully automatic, economical ice and snow melting on outdoor areas.
- ETO2: Digital controller for ice and snow melting.
The ETO2 can detect outdoor temperature and moisture temperature with the help of these sensors:
- ETOG: Ground sensor for detection of temperature and moisture.
- ETOR: Gutter sensor for detection of moisture.
- ETF: Oudoor sensor for detection of temperature.

Equipment quote
To correctly design a system to prevent the build up of ice and snow on rooftops, roofs, terraces, etc. we must have all the characteristics of the area you wish to heat.
Use one of these options to request a materials estimate:
- Post, fax or email
the plans or sketches of the roof, rooftop, terrace, etc.
- Or contact our technical department.
