Heating for pig farms

The climate conditions in farms are not constant:

Low temperatures mean that the energy provided from feeding is lost through keeping the animal warm. If it is too cold the animal will not fatten, and may lose weight; it will eat a lot of food but not grow fatter.

In the case of suckling pigs, cold is one of the main causes of mortality.

During the fattening and preparing for market phases, high temperatures are a disadvantage, provoking accelerated breathing and leading to respiratory disorders. The animals lose appetite and do not gain weight, they have to eat more food to grow fatter.

To obtain an optimum temperature for the raising of pig livestock, we recommend insulating the breeding areas, and installing a radiant floor heating system designed for farms from Elementos Calefactores AS.

This system consists in a BSA model heating mat, installed in the breeding pen, controlled and regulated with an ECAS control system best adapted to the needs of each project.

Heating mat with insulated base - model BSA

BSA heating mats are made using an insulated base with air pockets and a double layer of aluminium on both sides, with a working temperature of -25ºC to +85ºC, a density of 35Kg/m³, thermal resistance of 1.26m².h.ºC/Kcal, and a thickness of 4 mm.

The heating cables (which due to their general nature: thermal silicone insulation, Ni-Cr 80/20 heating wire and glass fibre core, protecting the heating cable from corrosive agents, and guaranteeing results from -60ºC to +180ºC) can vary in power, size, voltage, etc. according to the needs of the application.

Control and regulation

At Elementos Calefactores AS, we have different types of control and temperature regulating solutions, which are adaptable to all kinds of projects, and/or the needs of our customers.

Below are some of the control systems mentioned:

• DPA: Control and regulation box to connect between 1 and 4 circuits, from 8A to 63A at 230V.
• DR 4000: Digital Thermometer/Thermostat.
• ETV - 1991- P: DIN/Omega rail electronic modular analogue thermostat.
• ETN - 2P - 1441: DIN/Omega rail electronic modular analogue thermostat with mini-switchboard.

Materials estimate

To correctly design an animal heating system, we must know all the specifications of the pen, kennel, etc., where the animal or animals live, the ambient temperature, desired temperature, etc. and any important information to be considered, to be able to develop the most adequate heating system.
